2023 MLA Platinum Award

collectionHQ Receives Platinum in 2023 Modern Library Awards from LibraryWorks

(GLASGOW, Scotland) Jan. 17, 2023 – collectionHQ, the leading library analytics solution, is pleased to announce it has received a platinum award in LibraryWorks’ ninth annual Modern Library Awards (MLAs) for its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Analysis Module.

Acquired by Baker & Taylor in 2011, collectionHQ places innovation at the heart of its service to deliver public libraries with a toolset that supports community-driven collection development. The flagship collectionHQ product allows librarians to effectively analyze how their collection is performing and take clear action to maximize and manage it. The DEI Analysis Module was released in July 2021 and is designed to help libraries analyze the material in their collection with the view of increasing diverse representation and access to inclusive materials.

The MLAs were created to recognize the top products and services in the library industry in a truly unbiased format. Applications opened in fall of 2022 for products and services in the library industry, which were then posted to a private site with enhanced descriptions and extra information. The products were batched into small groups and sent out to the more than 80,000 librarians in LibraryWorks database – covering a range of public, K-12, academic and specialist libraries. Only customers with experience of using each submission acted as judges, ensuring a fair scoring process for all entrants.

Each judge rated the product on a numeric basis from 1-10 on a series of questions regarding functionality, value, customer service, etc.

Amandeep Kochar, President and CEO at Baker & Taylor said, “I am thrilled that our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Module has been recognized by the Modern Library Awards. I am particularly proud that this award helps highlight the vital work libraries are doing every day to serve marginalized community members. It is the commitment of librarians that inspires our team to develop innovative services and solutions.”

The DEI Analysis module was first released in July 2021 and is a comprehensive analysis tool to help libraries discover, manage and report on diversity-related topics. Supported by collectionHQ’s powerful technology it is available to collectionHQ customers as part of their existing subscription or as a stand-alone tool.

The DEI Analysis module is the first steps towards:

  • Analyzing a library’s fiction and non-fiction collections against industry-accepted diversity topics;
  • Monitoring the supply of diverse content to identify gaps at a system-wide and branch level;
  • Evaluating representation of diverse populations in both print and digital collections;
  • Effectively communicating diversity in a library’s collection to stakeholders in its community;
  • Suggesting future development lists using a data-driven approach;

Jenny Newman, publisher and MLA program manager said, “collectionHQ has been at the forefront of library analytics since it entered the market in 2008, and fully deserves Platinum recognition in the Modern Library Awards. As a company that is continuously innovating and responding to customer feedback, it is hardly surprising that collectionHQ users have scored this tool so highly.”
